Samina Anila

Founder & President

Samina Anila is the founder and president of Syed Pillar. She works with the other board members to bring new ideas to the foundation and is most excited about bringing change to the community and inspiring hope in people’s lives. She began in her journey in the non-profit sector when she started sending money to India for grade-school students. Her aunt connected her to different families, and from then, she became invested in the future of students' education. Samina was influenced by her parents and how they involved in the community - it inspired her to continue their legacy by creating Syed Pillar.

“I felt that starting a non-profit would be more beneficial as it would give me the freedom to grow and help people.”

Samina has always had a soft spot for kids, a desire to support them in their growth. She used to run a daycare and babysitting business from her home, drawn to the curiosity that the children embodied. The special moments she shared with them stuck with her for many years to come.

Outside of directing initiatives and her team at Syed Pillar, Samina is a devoted Muslim and follower of Islam. She enjoys reading and learning about the Quran, as well as participating in engaging discussions about religion with her friends and family. She finds motivation through her religion, her family, and most importantly - her daughters.

“My daughters play a huge role in my motivation. I want to be a good influence on them and inspire them to be ambitious with their goals, to always think about people they can help.”

Her top tip for anyone who wants to join or support the non-profit?

“I think the most important step is to have sincere intentions and don’t be afraid to ask people for help.”
